Setting or Changing Your IP Address:
Linux
- Most Linux distributions provide their own configuration tools through the desktop menu. For example, Red Hat or Fedora-based systems will have this in System Tools/Network. You may also use a tool such as linuxconf or netcfg. If you'd rather do it manually, refer to the Net-HOWTO.
Because there are so many different configuration tools available, we do not have detailed directions available.
- Make the following changes:
- Set the IP Address to an available address from your IP block or private network. Home DSL users: enter the new IP address assigned to you.
- If you have a routable IP block, enter the Subnet Mask provided; otherwise, use 255.255.255.0.
- Change the Gateway to the new IP address of your router. Home DSL users: use the Gateway IP address provided.
- Set the DNS servers to 204.212.42.4 and 204.212.42.2.
