Connecting to SpeedGate Residential DSL with Windows XP

  1. Follow the directions in the DSL Self-Install Kit to physically connect your DSL modem to the phone jack and to your computer, and power the DSL modem on.
  2. From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections.

  3. In the Network Tasks area, choose Create a new connection.

  4. This should bring up the New Connection Wizard. Press Next to begin.

  5. Select "Set up my Internet connection manually" and click Next.

  6. Select "Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password" and click Next.

  7. Where it asks for the name of your ISP, enter SpeedGate. If you already have a connection called SpeedGate, you can enter something else, as long as you remember which connection is the current one.

  8. Enter your username followed by @adsl.speed.net. If you want the computer to remember your password, you can enter it here. You will probably want to check all three options here. Click on Next.

  9. If you checked the options in the previous step, your computer will automatically connect when you start most Internet software. If you want to connect manually, check the box marked "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop." Click on Finish, and you're ready!
