Connecting to SpeedGate with Windows XP

  1. You should have been provided with an access number for your area. If you do not have one, and are reading this online, you can look up an access number here on our website.
  2. From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections.

  3. In the Network Tasks area, choose Create a new connection.

  4. This should bring up the New Connection Wizard. Press Next to begin.

  5. Select "Set up my Internet connection manually" and click Next.

  6. Select "Connect using a dial-up modem" and click Next.

  7. Where it asks for the name of your ISP, enter SpeedGate. If you already have a connection called SpeedGate, you can enter something else, as long as you remember which connection is the current one.

  8. Enter the access number for your area (see Step 1). Be sure to use the area code and "1" only if they are necessary to reach the number from your phone. Click Next.

  9. Enter your username followed by @speed.net. If you want the computer to remember your password, you can enter it here. You will probably want to check all three options here, unless you have dial-up accounts with more than one ISP. Click on Next.

Note: If you have a SpeedGate (yourname@speed.net) email address, it will be the same as your email address.

  10. If you checked the options in the previous step, your computer will automatically connect when you start most Internet software. If you want to connect manually, check the box marked "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop." Click on Finish, and you're ready!
